Lucknow is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The district headquarters are situated at Lucknow. It forms part of the Lucknow division. It is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. The Nawab of Awadh moved his capital from Faizabad to Lucknow in 1775. Hence, this city was established. It is one of the most prosperous and glittering cities of the nation. River Gomti passes through this region. Lucknow is a fast growing and bustling metropolis. It has a population of nearly 3 million. Many manufacturing, commercial and retailing activities take place.
It was initially known as Awadh. Many cultures are found in this city. It flourished in the 18th and 19th century as a cultural and artistic capital of North India. Lucknow History
Lucknow was an active base for the Khilafat Movement. It created a united platform against the British rule. Lucknow actively participated and cooperated with Mahatama Gandhi and Maulana Mohammad Ali. It was the capital of Oudh since 1775. It was merged with the new United Provinces along with Agra and Oudh in 1901. It became the provincial capital of the place in 1920 when the seat of the Government moved from Allahabad. It became the capital of the state in 1947. The All India Kisan Sabha was formed at the Lucknow session of the Indian National Congress on April 11, 1936. The first elected President was Swami Sahajanand Saraswati. They helped in mobilizing peasants grievances against the zamindari attacks on their occupancy rights, and thus sparking the Farmers' movement in India.

Lucknow Climate
The place experiences a warm humid subtropical type of climate. Summers are very hot. Winters are cool and dry. Winters last from December to February while summers last from April to June. The rainy season is from mid-June to mid-September, when Lucknow gets an average rainfall of 896.2 millimetres from the south-west monsoon winds. January might also experience some rainfall. The maximum temperature is around 25 degrees during winters while the minimum ranges from 2 to 3 degrees. Fog is common during winters. Summers are extremely hot with temperatures going up to 45 degrees.
