The district of Katni is situated in the state of Madhya Pradesh of central India. The town of Katni is the district headquarters. The district is part of the Jabalpur Division. It is also known as Murwara or Mudwara a town on the banks of River Katni in Madhya Pradesh. It is located in the l Region of Mahakosha. The city lies 90 km from the Divisional Headquarters of the region. Katni is one of largest railway junctions of India and apart from that it has the largest rail yard and the biggest diesel locomotive shed in India. The city has an abundance of lime and bauxite.
History of Katni
Katni is conglomeration of three different cultural states viz. Mahakausal, Bundelkhand, and Baghelkhand. There are three different stories which reveals why Katni is called Mudwara. The junction of Katni is a semi circular Mode from wagon yard so it is called as Mudwara. Another story depicts that there was a village call Modwar which was a reward for bravery of cutting Mud. And according to the other story the British government used to cut heads of thieves and buglarss, and hang it to scare the criminals.
