Gwalior History
Gwalior ingrained its name in the Indian history during the revolt of 1857 and Rani Lakshmi Bai's heroic battle. When Britishers took control over kalpi on May 24, 1858, Lakshmi bai sought shelter at the fort of Gwalior though the king of Gwalior was not in the favor but his soldiers laid down their arms in due respect of Rani of Jhansi. The British were quick in attacking Gwalior. It was one of the most treacherous and bloodiest battles ever fought on Indian soil. Lakshmi bai's courageously and fearlessly fought the vast and supreme British armys; unfortunately she got trapped in their shrewd plan and lost her life. She is an epitome of power, a true warrior.
A young Swatantrata Sangram Senani Guru Radha Kishan and his mate Ramchandra Sarvate organized a meeting of many people in Gwalior against the unjust government policies. He came to Gwalior after an arrest warrant was issued against his name due to active participation in freedom movement of India in Indore. Guru Radha Kishan fought gallantly for the economic deprivation during colonial rule in pre-independence days; his act was appreciated by eminent Gandhian Dada Dharmadhikari.
