Ghaziabad is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It forms part of the NCR which stands for National Capital Region. The district headquarters are located at Ghaziabad Town. It forms a part of the Meerut division. It is the third most populous district in the state according to the latest census of 2011, Allahabad and Moradabad being the first and second respectively. The district touches Baghpat district on the northwest, Meerut on the north, Jyotiba Phule Nagar district on the east, Bulandshahr district on the southeast, Gautam Buddh Nagar district on the southwest and Delhi on the west across the River Yamuna.

Legend has it that the district derives its name from the founder Ghazi-ud-din, who called it Ghaziuddinnagar after himself. It was later renamed to Ghaziabad. It is a big industrially important city. It is well connected to other parts of the state by roads and rail. It has abundance in industries like that of maintenance of electric locomotive & EMU Trains, manufacture railway Wagons, bicycles, tapestries, glassware, pottery, paint and varnish, heavy chains. Defense Products manufacturing units are also present at Muradnagar & Bharat Electronics Limited.

Ghaziabad History

Ghaziabad was a tehil under the Meerit division until November 14, 1976. On the auspcious occasion of birth anniversary of Pandit Jawarlal Nehru, the then Chief Minister N.D. Tewari declared it as a district. Since then, Ghazibad has shown massive improvements on the social, economic, agriculture and individual front. Ghaziabad Town lies on the Grand Trunk road about a mile east of the River Hindon. Also, it is 19 kilometers east of Delhi and 46 kilometeres southwest of Meerut. It is connected by roads to Loni, Baghpat, Hapur and Garhmukteshwar. Buses run at frequent intervals from here to Delhi, Meerut, Aligarh, Bulandshahar, Moradabad, Lucknow and to other districts also. . It is an important station on the Northern Railway where railway lines, from Delhi to Calcutta, Moradabad and Saharanpur meet, connecting it with many important cities of India. It is also sometimes referred to as the Gateway to Uttar Pradesh.

Ghaziabad is gradually turning into a cosmopolitan. It has shown remarkable growth in industrial and commercial centres. Owing to its proximity to Delhi, the cultural life is same. The Law and Order has improved in this region over time. Many dance programs, music concerts, plays and art exhibitions take place on a regular basis. Several art galleries and malls are also present in the city.

Ghaziabad Climate

Its climatic conditions are similar to Delhi. Monsoons hit the place by the end of June. or the first week of July and normally it rains till October. Unlike the other districts were only 3 major seasons are prevalent, this region can also experience adverse weather conditions due to Himalayas and Kumaon Hills.
