Farrukhabad is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The district headquarters are situated at Fatehgarh Town. It falls under the Kanpur division. From the north, it is bordered by Badaun and Shahjahanpur and by Hardoi District on the east. It has Kannauj district on the south and Etah and Mainpuri districts on the west. The Rivers Ganga and Ramganga are towards the east of the district and the River Kali towards its south. Kannauj once formed a part of the district until September 18, 1997. Farrukhabad, Kaimganj and Amritpur are the three tehsils that constitute the district. Amritpur tehsil was created from Rajepur Block after the district was split in 1997. Most of the area is plain except for few sudden, abrupt slopes. The highest recorded elevation is 167 m above sea level at Mohammadabad and the lowest 145.69 m at Mau Rasulpur in the Trans Ganges flats of Tehsil Farrukhabad.

Farrukhabad History

The district felt the influence of the Non Co-operative movement which was started by Mahatma Gandhi in August, 1920. Protests and processions were held out at Farrukhabad, Fatehgarh, Kampil, Shamsabad, Kannauj, Indergarh and other towns. The strike against the British with the slogan of SIMON GO BACK took place in 1928 and people participated actively. The civil disobedience movement was started in Farrukhabad in 1930. Salt was also manufactured at Sikandarpur, Bholepur, Chibramau and Kannauj. Eminent personalities like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bose visited the place during the freedom struggle. The district also remembers those of its people who participated in the struggle for freedom.
