Bulandshahar History
The history of Bulandshahar finds its roots in the Mahabharata. This region is nearer to the capital of Pandavas - Indraprasth and Hastinapur. Ahar became an important place for the Pandavas after the decline of Hastinapur. A fort was made by King Parma followed by the construction of a tower called Baran by another king named Ahibaran. As they say it, it came to be known as Bulandshahar because of its location on a highland. A message of revolution was carried from Aligarh to Bulandshahar by Pandit Narayan Sharma on 10 May 1857 during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Bungalows, telegraph offices and government buildings were demolished by the Gurjars of Dadri and Sikandrabad as they were perceived to be symbols of foreign rule. The hero of the war was the Gurjar Raja, Rao Umrao Singh Bhati whose heroic deeds are remembered even to this day. During this period, a number of government institutions were attacked, looted and burned to ashes.
