Bikaner is a district of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is a state in the western portion of India. The headquarters of the district is located in the city of Bikaner. Bikaner is again divided into four districts namely Bikaner, Churu, Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh.

The district of Bikaner is positioned in the northwest part of Rajasthan, which is a state in north India. Jaipur is the state capital. Bikaner is set at a distance of 330 kilometers in the northwest direction of Jaipur. The administrative headquarters of Bikaner District as well as Bikaner Division is the city of Bikaner. The ex-capital of the princely state of Bikaner is the city of Bikaner. In the year of 1486 Rao Bika discovered the Bikaner city. From being a small establishment, it has grown up to be Rajasthans fourth largest city. In the year 1928 the construction of Ganges Canal was finished, while the Indira Gandhi Canal was completed in 1987. These two canals have made the cultivating of crops like mustard, cotton, groundnuts, wheat and vegetables possible. Wool production, mining of Gypsum, plaster of Paris and Bentonite are the other industries of Bikaner. Sweets and snacks of Bikaner are also well renowned.

The district shares its borders with Ganganagar District to the north, Hanumangarh District to the northeast, Churu District to the east, Nagaur District to the southeast and Jodhpur District to the south. Jaisalmer District and Punjab Province of Pakistan borders the district to the southwest and northwest respectively. The district of Bikaner is positioned in the Thar Desert. The Indira Gandhi Canal, which runs through Bikaner, is also known as the Rajasthan Canal. The canal stretches from the northeast of the district to the southwest of it. It supplies water for irrigation purposes. Karnimata, which s also recognized by the world as the temple of miracles, is situated in Deshnok, close to Bikaner. The temple is also named as the Temple of Rats.

Bikaner History

The Mughal Emperors ruled Delhi from 1526 to 1857. Throughout the Bikaner State remained faithful and devoted to them. Raj Singh became the chieftain of Bikaner in 1571. He turned out to be Emperor Akbars most eminent generals and he was also made Bikaners first Raja. In the 18th century, since the Mughal authority and supremacy was fading gradually, the battles and wars between Bikaner and the princely state of Jodhpur raged sporadically. In 1818, a treaty was signed declaring the British dominance. The British troops reinstated the stability of the country. In 1883, the princely state was subjected to the Rajputana agency. However the mutinous activities of the local Thakurs or subsidiary chiefs went on. The Bikaner Camel Corps was taken in the states military force. During the Boxer Rebellion and in the Middle East during World War I, it acquired popularity in China during the Boxer Rebellion and in the Middle East during World War I. in 1949 Bikaner was included in the State of Rajasthan, an Indian State. It was separated into three districts. The area covered by Bikaner summed up to more than 23,000 square miles by 1949.

Bikaner Climate

In the centre of the Thar Desert, the district of Bikaner is located. It experiences very slight rainfall. Extreme variations in temperature typify Bikaners climate. The temperature goes well above 50 C during the summers, while in the winter it goes below 0 C.
