Bhojpur district, with Arrah town as its administrative headquarters, is one of the thirty-eight districts of state of Bihar state in eastern India. The present Bhojpur was established in the year 1992. Previously this district was part of the previous Sahabad district. In the year 1972 Sahabad district was divided into two parts namely Bhojpur and Rohtas. Buxar was a subdivision of earstwile Bhojpur district. Bhojpur district has now three sub-divisions- Ara Sadar, Jagdishpur and Piro. The district is presently a part of the Red Corridor.
Bhojpur History
The district of Shahabad has seen many protest movement after the Quit India Resolution on 9 August 1942. To speed up the movement, the revolutionaries of the district decided to hoist the tri-color at Ara collectorate. The "Role-Cess" was deposited on 28 Sep 1942 by the district administration. On this day a group of Satyagrahis started the Satyagrah from collectorate in the village Jagwalia. The group was led by a brave soldier, Kavi Kailash who hailed from Ghoradei. Hiding from the police, the group reached at Ara collectorate and hoisted the tri-color in the campus of Ara collectorate. The Satyagrahis were cruelly beaten-up there. Kavi Kailash was lifted and whipped on a big stone near Ara collectorate tank. He was tied with horse and harshly dragged on the roads. Then boiled water was poured over his body.
At last, reciting the slogans of "Bharat Mata ki Jai", this brave son of Bhojpur led his life to the rest and became a prominent martyr of this district. Another village called Kulhariya, located at a distance of 12 k.m east of Ara is also known for its bravery in quit India movement.
Bhojpur Climate
The climate of the district is of extreme nature. The weather is hot in the middle of March as a consequence of hot westerly winds that begin to blow during the day. Extremely hot weather is experienced in the months of April and May. Normally, the monsoon commences by the third week of June and the rains continue with intervals till about the end of September to the early part of October. The cold weather begins from the month of November and continues till the beginning of March. January is the coldest month when temperature dips to 10 C. The district experiences occasional thunder-storms from the month of April till the first break down of the monsoon.
Rains sets in June which is accompanied by a fall in temperature and increment in humidity. The district witnesses maximum rains during the months of July and August. The average rainfall experienced is about 300 mm. The district gets easterly winds from June to September. The direction of the winds get reversed from October and westerly winds blow till May. There is slight rainfall in October with quite dry weather in November and December are quite dry. Some winter rain is also experienced in January and February.

Gundi Village :- Birth Place of World famous Saint Awadhoot Bhagwan Ram, popularly known as Sarkar Baba or Bhagwan Ramji. He was born in the 1937 at Gundi village. Later he moved to the Baba Keenaram Sthal, which is thousands of years old Spiritual Centre & Worldfame Headquarter of Aghor sect at Varanasi, at the age of 7 only . Sun Temple at Dev : The Dev village of Tarari block has statue of the Sun god besides several other devoities, said to be of 14th century or even before. Veer Kunwar Singh Kila: Jagdishpur The great warrior of 1857 hailed in Jagdishpur. His fort is still there to remind us of the great son of the soil who fought for the freedom till his last breathe. Aranya Devi Temple:This is a popular temple of Aranya Devi, who is the deity Goddess of Ara town. The statue of ADI SAKTI was established by the Pandavas. It is an ancient temple, drawing many devotees every day. It is located at the top of stone boulde. Gharbharni maa mandir in nitesh pandey bagicha shahpur is also very popular. Maa Kali Mandir: This temple is located at Bakhorapur at a distance about 15 km from Ara. This is one of the oldest temples in the country. An 85 feet high statue of Maa Kali is established near the temple. The temple lies on the bank of the Ganges. The main temple is made up of granite and marble stones. Nowadays this palace is a most sought after destination for different types of films and shooting. Chaturvuj Narayan Mandir:This ancient statue of Laxmi -Narayan is located at Chaturvuj village of Piro block. Bhavani Mandir Chaturvuj Baraon: It has a 13th-century statue. It is well-known for its architecture. Gadh Kali Mandir-Garhani: This temple is located at Garhani Taluk, Garhani at a distance of about 20 km from Ara Railway station. This temple is very old and re-constructed in the year 2009-10. According to the villagers, this temple was established at the Period of CHERO. Jagdamba Mandir: An ancient statue of Goddess Jagdamba at Mukundpur village of Charpokhari block is placed in this temple. Parswanath Mandir :It is a century old Jain Temple situated at Masadh Village. Mahamaya Mandir: This temple is situated at Ekwari village of Sahar block. This was built during the Mughal period. Mahathin Mai Mandir : This is situated at Bihiya and draws a lot of women devotees. Jain Sidhant Bhawan: It has a library containing a unique collection of materials related to Jainism. It is one of its kind in Asia. Paihari Jee Ka Ashram: It is an ashram at Dhrampur village located in Sahar block. Matiyara, Kayamnagar: Situated at a distance of 9 km from Ara railway station Lakar Sah Ki Mazar : It is situated at Sahpur and is a famous Mazar of a local Muslim saint. Kurwa Shiv : It is located in Shahpur Billoti Road. Venkatesh Mandir: This temple is located at Perhap village and has a statue of Southern architectural style. Baba yagyeshwar dham: It is a Shiv temple and is situated in Jagdishpur which is said to be made by 'Lord Shrikrishna' under the supervision of 'Maharshi Yagyavalkya'. Hanumaan mandir Sahi Jama Masjid : This mosque was built by Shersah Suri and is located at Garhani Bazzar. The Great Jama Masjid : It is located at Bhaluana village.
