Basai commonly known as” Tiba-Basai” is situated at 27
degree 58 minutes east latitude and 75 degree 58 minutes north longitude.
Before seventies both the twin villages (Tiba and Basai) were in one panchayat.
In 1974 both villages were made separate in two panchayatas. A seasonal river
anciently known as "Dundbhaga" now rarely known by its name but
called as Basai river flows near it. During state times it was a prosperous
village and was the centre of trade. Peoples from neighbouring villages used to
come to sell and purchase their commodities. Then it was a mahajan basti as
Brahmin and baniyas were in large numbers though all the casts live in this
village. In the lust of earnings these two casts (specially Baniyas) went in
the various parts of the country such as assam Calcutta Hyderabad Raipur Kanpur
dhanbad patna. There they earned money and fame. Brijmohan Agrawal is now a
cabinet minister in chhatishgarh govt. now these two casts are not in majority
as compared to past. When panchayati raj was introduced Vaidya Badri Prasad was
nomited as its first Sarpanch unimously by raising hands. Second sarpanch was
thakur shish pal Singh.
In ancient times there were seven temples and one masjid
(which still exits). Now only four out of seven are only operative. Two new temples shyam baba and Gayatri mandir are built recently. The
famous temple of Baba Rameshwardasji is near it. In this
temple a 41 ft. high statue of Hanuman (perhaps highest in north India)
8ft high statue of Nandi (bull )and airawat (elephant) attracts the people. In this temple one can see all the deities of Hindu faith as they are painted
on the walls. All the 18 adhyas of Bhagwadgeeta are
inscribed on the walls. Basai people have deep devotion to Babaji and they are
emotionally attached to it .
