A few people travelled from Senkotai in Tamil Nadu moved in search of fortune and settled here a few centuries ago. They are called Kowshik Sankethis. Village population is around 2500. It has Primary, Middle and High Schools- funded by the the government. No assured irrigation canal here- though Kaveri and Lakshmana Thertha rivers flow nearby. People live on hard work and rain water. Major food crop is Ragi. Commercial crops are tobacco, arecanut, coconut, beetle leaf, etc.

Highly educated and well behaved people live here. People  originated from here are settled in UK, Australia, USA, Gulf, etc. People  who had their initial education here in govt. schools are working as professors, doctors, engineers, advocates, bank executives, etc. The village is well known for karnatic music tradition- vocalists, violinists, percussionists, flutists, etc. Vedic scholars walk on the mud streets of this village -bear footed as ordinary people. 

Ramanavami is celebrated for 9 days every year in Chaitra month first half with great pomp. 

Temples situated here are Sri vani- village diety, Iswara temple- newly built, Hanuman temple- renovated, Basaveswara temple. Pooja is performed regularly. 

Private scheduled commercial bank- The Karnataka Bank has a branch here. The village has a regular post office and Primary Health Centre. 

People are generally hard working, god fearing, honest and intelligent.
