THE ORIGIN OF ZHOBUMAI:
Zhobumai is the name of the Village also known its people. Literally Zho means Kheza ( a language group in Chakhesang). Bumai is from buhmai meaning people of original, main or chief Village. Therefore Zhobumai means Kheza originor main village or people. Another theory has it that in the course of migration after despersion from makhel they atempted to cross the Lanier river, But unfortunately they wre held up by the summer flood of this river. As the flood prolonged they continued to stay there permanently. Since then they had been called Zhobumai meaning' the held up Kheza people'. Both views supplement to one another Zhobumai is Chingmai Khunou in Manipuri.

Zhobumai Village was lived by 700 houses comprised with seven Clans. Present Shimaiju was the Location where Khezakeno clan lived. The upper portion the present village site was the location of other Clans. The west of present village was occupied by Zapami Clan. This is the right side of the village. Therefore they were called Zapami meaning' right side of dwellers'. Huge and tall memorail stones erected by teh early dwellers are still existing below the present village.Tradition has it that those stones were not pulled but lifted upon their shoulders by means of bamboo and wood support.
