Panzgam is south-east of Srinagar city at a distance of 39 kilometres in tehsil Awantipora and  district Pulwama. In ancient times it formed the village of Vaisya Holada and in medieval times it was the part of Pargana Ular. Its history is very rich, it was the neolithic habitat. It is said that it was the Greek colony which can be inferred from some place names of the village like  "Lamhoam"  which in itself seems to be the derivative of Greek word "ioum" and some stray findings in the form of terracota figures which  came to light once the flanks of Karewas were dugged for the construction of Qazigund Baramulla Railway line. The village is well connected with Awantipora, Pulwama and Anantnag (Islamabad) by means of roads and is also connected with railway line which was recently laid from Qazigund to Baramulla, IRCON has constructed a Railway Station here. The village is having numerous educational institutes like Government Higher Secondary Institute Panzgam, Darul Uloom Panzgam, Government Middle School for Boys, Government Middle School for Girls, Government Primary School Astanpora Panzgam, and Darul Hafz. The village is also having Receiving Station, Primary Helath Centre with ambulance, Veterinary Dispensary, Community Information Centre, and some ICDS centres. Its population is 100 per cent Muslims.
