About and History Of Gorana


The word GORANA means Cow’s meadows as Go means Cow and ‘Rana’ means field, grassland in Hindi. This village comprises Rawat & Bartwal Rajput community. Perhaps the only village comprising only Rajput community in Garhwal.

Gorana is a Village in Rudrapryag  District, Uttrakhand State. Gorana is located 21 k.m distance from Rudrapryag and just 1 k.m from Durgadhar. It is located 120 km distance from its State capital Dehradun.

Gorana is one of the most prosperous villages in the region, but the water problem continue to be inadequate for long. Gorana is mostly rural farmland. The main occupation is farming. People are serving in various private and government sectors.  

Near By Villages of this Village with distance are Jakhni (1 k.m.), Chamswara (2 k.m.), Bora (3 k.m.) ,Bawai (3.5k.m.), Falasi (3 k.m.).  

Near by town Chopta is a local hub with Post Office, SBI Bank, Schools and hospital.

On top of the village there is Maa Rajrajeshwari Temple. There is Idol of goddess Durga and is worship. A large fair is held here on the Saptami & Ashtami of Bhadra Shukla every year.

In the middle of the Village there is the Pandav Chowk, where  after every three years the Pandav Nirtya  is conducted.  Pandav Nirtya in Uttrakhand is one of the most famous dance form of the Garhwal dance form. Pandac Nirtya mainly belongs to the Chamoli district. The Pandac Nirtya is common related to the story of Mahabharata. It can be said that the Pandav Nirtya is a episodic representation of the Mahabharata story.
