Geographically it situated in India’s Karnataka state and Udupi District which is a small area within Bijoor Village Panchayat in Kundapura Tahsil. One can see vast greenery consisting of cultivable land embrace the outsider in great pleasure. Initially it comprises of few houses called Kanchikan mane, Deetimane, Bhattara mane, Golibettu, Bharthi makki, Naramballi, Horlihakklu, Malagaddemane, Kattemane, Rayarabettu, Gundaadikeri, Mursashsi,Ubbjeri, Guramakki Subbaarhithlu, Kinirmane, chamteharlu shettramane, Meyyanimane and Upadhyarahitlu etc which are known as different ‘Kutumbas’ (Dynesty) who are living in thatched huts with bomboos and stacks with primitive stage of life. Now-a-days it expanded to large number of fragmented families having different houses with modern amnities. The spoken language in large is Kannada and particularly known as Kundapra Kannada a kind of the folk languages in kannada. Majority of people belongs to OBC categories like Devadigas, Poojari or Billavas. Vertualy the inhabitants are farmers and daily wage earners who have small earning people. May be few of them are having properties as well.

In olden days it was said that a small woods type forest consisting of ‘kanchi trees’ (a kind of tree that has fruit similar to lemon in giant size) was exist in abundance covering the vast area and that is later called a forest of ‘kanchi’ which in its regional language it called “Kanchi-kan”. Kan means forest in Kannada. So the name of the village derived and called as Kanchikan
