Gowara is a well known village in distt. Sangrur The location of this village is toward the 9 km. In the east of its sub-division malerkotla (a former princely estate) of undivided Punjab. Regarding the facilities provided, there is a Senior Secondary School in the village which is well running in a very beautiful building and all the streams as, arts, commerce, non-medical and medical are taught by the talented and capable staff. An elementary school is also contributing well in the field of quality education. Three Aaganwadi schools have been opened in the village to provide basic education knowledge for small kids. A 66 kv grid sub-station is raised by power com for uninterrupted electric supply for the village. A primary health centre situated in well constructed modern building is also serving the people by an Allopathic and Ayurveda trained doctors with dedicated staff. A trained Bvsc. doctor is also giving his valuable services in Veterinary hospital here. Punjab govt. has gifted a Sewa Kendra to this village where various govt. services are being given to the villagers.A well designed stadium, gymnasium, community centre, post-office, verka milk dairy, a petrol pump and two dharamsalas are used regularly according to their facility. The population of this village is around 3400. The number of residential homes in the village is around 600. It is said that this village was founded more than five centuries ago by a man called Rama, who was married at nearby village Salar and belonged to Kala Sanghian village presently in Kapurthala distt. of punjab. All the people are living in this village together with utmost peace, love and affection instead of various castes and creeds. A famous sikh historian, writer of more than 150 books Giani Shamsher Singh Ashok (a Sangha Sikh) was also a prominent personality of Gowara village. Comrade Achhar singh Sangha of this village was elected M.L.A. from Dhuri in 1971. An another son of this soil Major Hardev Singh Grewal, who was killed in Indo-Pak war in 1971 was awarded a gallantry award Vir Chakra (posthumously) by Govt. of India. Captain Mohkam singh sangha and a Naik. Mukhtiar singh sangha died during their army service and known for their respective bravery acts. A joint War memorial is raised in their honour in Govt. sr. sec. School. People of multi-surnames as Sangha, Birring, Pandher, Gill and Grewal are primary residents of this village. About 20 people of village are in govt. service, 20 children have gone abroad for higher studies and, However fundamental profession of most of the residents of this village is agriculture.
