Dahanu is a beautiful coastal town located in the Thane district in the state of Maharastra. Dahanu is a picturesque town with views of the Arabian Sea. The name of the town is coined from the word �Dhenu Gram� which actually means village of cows. It earned itself the name because at one point of time, most of the people of the town owned cows and cattle. Although, recently, the town has emerged as an important commercial and industrial town with many factories and industries. The town is quite scenic with its peaceful stretch of the beach, coconut groves, rose gardens and the beautiful fruit orchards. Dahanu is known for its chickoo production and 50 percent of the India�s chickoo production comes from here. The beach here is beautiful and clean. The sea here does not have much current and remains calm. Hence making it ideal for swimming and enjoying a relaxed time in the beach. The beach in Dahanu stretches up to around 17 kilometres. The best getaway from a hard week at work. There are also a number of temples in and around the town. All these assets attached to this town makes it a great tourist hub.

Dahanu Beach is among the chief tourist attractions of Dahanu. It is visited by tourists for its peaceful surroundings. Tourists can see numerous Casuarina trees along the shore. Tourists can also indulge in swimming at the beach due to the calm waves.
Dahanu Fort traces a history covering over 400 years. The fort was under the British and was converted to a jail after Indian independence. Made up of cut stones, the fort is around 10 ft thick and stands 38 ft tall. The terrace of the fort started to depreciate after 1818.

The closest airport is located at Mumbai. For those who arrive at the Mumbai airport the best way to get to Dahanu is by hiring a taxi from the airport to the city of Dahanu.
Dahanu has its own railway station that is very well linked. Many important trains pass via this station. This place is connected to cities such as Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Pune, Jodhpur, Dehradun and many more cities.
There are state buses from Pune and Mumbai to Dahanu. They ply very frequently and it shouldn�t be difficult getting one of these buses to the city.

Summers are very uncomfortable and the heat and humidity can be really difficult to tolerate. Monsoon season experiences large amount of rainfall. Winters are milder and easier to handle. This would be an ideal time to visit the place.
