Thiruchendur is a small and beautiful coastal town located in the district of Tuticorin. The town highly renowned for the world famous temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. The astonishing temple is located along the seashore of Gulf of Mannar and made this town as wonderful tourist destination and most popular Hindus pilgrimage. The land is filled with fertile red soil which made this place as an ideal land of cultivation of Cashews and other vegetations. The scenic backdrop of sea and lush green vegetation and serene atmosphere are the attractive features of Thiruchendur. It is one of the six holy abode of Lord Murugan. It is the prime attraction of Thiruchendur. Lord Murugan and his consorts Valli, Deivanai are presiding deities. It is one of the six holy abode of Lord Murugan. The Lord Murugan is expressed as Senthilandavar. The origin of this temple is unknown but it was mentioned in several vedic scripts and legends. Tall gopuram and lively sculptures are worth visiting in this temple. Major festivals of Lord Murugan are celebrated with pomp and gaiety.

It is an ancient and famous fort associated with several freedom fighters and rulers, especially Veera Pandiya Kattabomman. The fort was partially damaged in 1799 by British. Those who are interested in historical events can find this place as heaven.

Valli’s cave, Melaputhukudi, Kudhirai Mozhitheri and Tuticorin are the other famous picnic spots to rejoice during Thiruchendur tourism.
