                                               Muktsar

Important Sikh history prevails in the Sri Mukstar Sahib City. Three important gurudwaras are found here which are – The Tuti Gandi Gurudwara Sahib, Tibbi Sahib, Gurudwara Rakab Sar and Gurudwara Taran Sahib. One must definitely visit these gurudwaras as they shed light on the history of the Sikhs. Fifteen kilometers away from Mukstar lies a place named Sarai Naga. It is the birthplace of the second out of the ten gurus of the Sikhs named Guru Angad Dev.

An ancient mosque is also located near the railway station. It is called the Angooran Wali Maseet. The state of Punjab is famous for its gurudwaras. Some of the known ones in and around Muktsar are Gurudwara Guptar Sahib at village Chhatteana, Gurudwaras at Rupana, Gurusar, Faqarsar and Bhundar.

Muktsar stretches over an area of 2615 kilometers. It is bound by Bhatinda and Ferozepur on the east and west sides respectively. Faridkot and Rajasthan enclose it from north and south.

The word Muktsar is comprised of two words ‘Mukti’ which means salvation/liberation and ‘sar’ which means pond/pool. Hence, it means a pond of liberation. The disciples of Guru Gobind Singh Ji were called Muktas. They fought against the Mughal Army in 1705. Thus, it gives the name to the place.

                                          Places to visit

Gurudwara Tambu Sahib: This gurudwara was built by Maharaja Mohinder Singh of Patiala. It replaced an old building. The building is built on the same spot where the Muktas rested. The ceiling is high with a doom. There is a sanctum in the centre.

Gurudwara Shahidganj Sahib: This gurudwara is found 50 meters away from sarovar. It was here that Guru Gobind Singh cremated the bodies of the martyrs. It is also referred to as Arigitha. It means pyre. Raja Wazir Singh of Faridkot got this built in 1870. The building is rectangular in shape. It was reconstructed in the 1980s.

Sri Darbar Sahib: This shrine was built by the first Sikh families that settled here in the year 1743. It lies on the western bank of the sarovar. Since then, the building has been renovated many times. An old tree is something that has stood there without any changes from time immemorial.

Mukta Minar: Mukta Minar is one of the main attractions of the place. Beautiful gardens and lightings are the highlights of this place. Khanda Sahib is depicted by them. The concrete structure of the minar is covered with steel all over. An open air theatre is also present here.

Angooran Wali maseet: It is an old mosque. It is located near the railway station.
