MATHERAN

 Located at a height of 800 mts this gorgeous hilly terrain, Matheran is blessed with an invigorating climate, which attracts the tourists with its amazing spectacles throughout the year. It is close to Pune and Mumbai.

 People mainly from Mumbai and Pune visit this place in order to take a break from the tiresome city life. The journey to this hill station is very adventurous and thrilling as movement of vehicles is banned here. 

 It is blessed with 38 spectacular peak points. You can fill your heart with the beauty of the nature at Little Chouk, Louisa and panorama points. Charlotte Lake, Parsi and Hindu cemeteries are worth a visit. Byron Garbutt point, Panorama Point are the best places for trekkers.  The Paymaster Park and Panthers’ Caves are the places where children enjoy the most. The two hour toy train ride is enjoyed both by kids and elders. The joyous two hour ride provides an amazing view of the lush green and lofty cliffs. Hath point provides a stunning glimpse of Mumbai. Shopping can be best enjoyed in the main bazaar, which is famous for leather products, hats, chappals and delicious chikki. 

                                                   PLACES TO VISIT

Charlotte Lake (Sharlott) : It is one of the spectacular spots. To the left side of the lake Louisa and Echo points are located and to its right Pisarnath temple is located. Some domestic birds can be spotted flying here. Matheran gets major supply of drinking water from this lake. Monsoon is the best time to visit this lake. 

Panorama Point : It is one of the greatly loved destinations by the trekkers which offers splendid view of the rising sun. It also offers majestic view of the Chanderi, Peb fort, Louisa point and Hart point.

Valley Crossing :  Brave hearts can enjoy and experience valley crossing at the honey point. 

Mount Berry : This famous place is located about 6kms far from Matheran. Train ride is a prominent attraction here. Rich look of Matheran is available from here.

By Air: Mumbai airport is about 100kms from here.

By Rail:  Neral station is about 21 kms from Matheran. Trains run between Mumbai-Neral 90 kms. Neral-Matheran is 21 kms. Pune-Neral is 120 kms. 

By Bus: Government and private buses run between Mumbai and Pune to Neral which is close to Matheran.
