Kalinjar is a small village but well furnished with all the
basic amenities. It is situated on the ancient land Jejakbhukti. The fort
belonged to Chandela rulers. Akbar won the fort and gifted it to Birbal. From
him, the fort went to Chhatrasala and then to Hardev Shah of Panna. The town of
Kalinjar was once guarded by 4 gates but now only 3 remain- Kamta, Panna and
Rewa Dwar. It has a population of just 4000.
Places to see:
Kalinjar Fort: This Fort is situated on the Vindhayas Range.
It has seven gateways- Alamgir Darwaza, Ganesh Darwaza, Chauburji Darwaza,
Buddha Bhadra Darwaza, Hanuman Darwaza, Lal Darwaza and Bara Darwaza. Within
the fort are other smaller constructions. The Raja Mahal, the Rani Mahal, Sita
Sej, Patal Ganga, Pandu-Kund, Budha Budhi Taal, Bhairon Ki Jharia, Mrigdheera,
Koito birth, etc.
Neelkanth Temple: This
temple was built during the Chandela rule. It is a unique temple and is
dedicated to Lord Shiva. It has a statue of 18 armed Shiva showing his “Kal
Bhairav” aspect.
Vankhandeshwar Mahadev
Temple: It is situated at the source of Shivasari Ganga.

nearest airport is Khajuraho airport which is 130 km away.
By rail: The
nearest station is Attara which is a small one.
By road: Kalinjar
is well connected to other cities by regular bus services.
