Hospet
It is famous small town located on the banks of River Tungabhadra at a distance of 325 km from state capital Bangalore. It is wonderful heritage site and a tourist gateway for those who arrive from Goa and Hampi. It has glorious past and served as capital during great Vijayanagara kingdom. Hospet is the key producers of iron and steel. Hence it is popularly expressed as Steel City. The major tourist attraction is Tungabhadra Dam. It is the oldest reservoir, built during 12th century by Vijayanagara king Krishnadeva Raya. The beauty of the dam is further made mesmerizing by the awe-inspiring garden which is a finest evidence of Japanese style. Apart from Dam, Hospet is well known for its renowned temples like Ramachandra temple, Vrupaksha temple, Vittala temple and Hazara temple. These temples are reminiscent of ancient history and an illustration of finest artworks.
Places to visit
Tungabhadra Dam
The oldest Dam in Karnataka, belongs to 12th century. It was built across the river Tungabhadra by the great Vijayanagara king Krishna Deva Raya. It is one of the ancient reservoir and a power station in India. One can find variety of fishes, aquatic animals, spot billed pelicans, storks, flamingos and others.
Vittala Temple
The beautiful 16th century temple, dedicated to Lord Vittala. The 56 musical pillars are the highlighting feature in this temple. Each pillar creates a musical notes when it is tapped. Beautiful sculptures of various deities, lively paintings and decorated walls of shrine are the other attractions.
Hazara Rama Temple
It is one of the prominent religious destination in Hospet. The 15th century temple, devoted to Lord Rama. The sacred shrine depicts scenes from Ramayana in the form of beautiful sculptures and paintings.
Vrupaksha Temple
It is most significant site in Hospet, located in Hampi. It is also a part of UNESCO world heritage. The historical marvel dedicated to Lord Shiva is belongs to 8th century.
