Durg

The southwestern portion of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh contains the town of Durg. The town is encircled by mesmerizing hilly terrains in the direction of south, southwest and northwest. In the entire state of Chhattisgarh, Durg is the most popular destinations among the tourists. The beautiful folk dance forms namely the Raut Nacha and Pandwani belong to Durg. The town is also well known for its intense customs and traditions. Some of the principal locations to visit in Durg are the renowned Bhilai Iron & Steel Plant along with the Maitri Bagh. The renowned Jain holy place of the Parshwanath Tirth and the Jhalmala’s Ganga Maiya Temple are two of the other locations in Durg to visit.

                                  PLACES TO SEE IN DURG

Shri Uwassaggaharam Parshwa Tirth, Nagpura: Constructed during the year of 1995, this place is a holy location for the Jain people. This place is situated on the beds of the river named Sheonath. Numerous temples, accommodations for the guests, a beautiful garden and Naturopathy and Yoga Centre are present within the grounds of this place. A gate of an altitude of 30 feet is present at the entry point of this temple dedicated to Shri Parshwanath. The temple has been constructed out of marbles. The entrance gate contains a statue of Parshwanath, which has been held in place with the help of four numbers of pillars. This holy place receives huge number of pilgrims during the time of the full moon.

Maitri Bagh: This place is a zoo and also a beautiful park for the children. The responsibility of taking care of the park is of the Bhilai Steel Plant. The unique animals, the birds, the sparkling lake, enjoyable toy trains and other such items are the main attraction of this place. The musical fountain, which is located on the island right in the heart of the man-made lake in Maitri Bagh, dances vibrantly to the tune of the music, thus creating a mesmerizing show for the visitors. This place also hosts a flower show annually.

By Air: The closest air terminal is located in Raipur, situated at a distance of 56 Kms from Durg.

By Rail: The town of Durg has its own railway station, which has good connections to other major railway stations of the country.

By Road: The town of Durg is situated on the National Highway Number 6. The town is connected to other places via buses, taxis, tempos and private cars.
