Agartala

Agartala is the capital city of the Indian state of Tripura. One can observe a rich assortment of cultures in Agartala, owing to the fact that it is located very near to the border between India and Bangladesh. The western portion of the state of Tripura houses the city of Agartala. The distance between Kolkata and Agartala is 1680 Kms.

The months between October and April are the ideal time to visit the city. This place witnesses small amount of rainfall during the end of this time period. The rich historical facts and the diverse cultures make it worth to make a trip to this place. 

                                           Tourist Places in Agartala

Ujjayanta Palace: The principal attraction of Agartala is the Ujjayanta Palace. Maharaja Radhakishore Manikya constructed this structure during the year 1901 in an Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The structure has two floors. The structure covers parkland covering 28 hectares and also the office of the State Legislative Assembly is present in here. Two temples named Umanneshwar and Jagganath are present in the compound of the palace. 

Kunjaban Palace: Kunjaban Palace is another palace which is worth visiting during one’s trip to Agartala. In the year 1917, Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya constructed this palace. The distance between this palace and the Ujjayanta Palace is one kilometer. It is situated on a small hill. The authorized dwelling place for Tripura’s Governor is this palace. Tourists and visitors can visit only the southern portion of the palace. This portion is called as Rabindra Kanan.

Neermahal: Neermahal is another of the major crowd pulling location around Agartala. The distance between this place and Agartala is 55 Kms. In the lake called Rudrasagr, this summer resort has been constructed. 5.35 square kilometers is the area of the place.  

Debtamura: The distance between Debtamura and Agartala is 75 Kms. This place is located on the bed of river named Gomati. One can find here, the stone carvings of Hindu Gods such as Shiva, Vishnu, Kartik, Mahisasur, Mardini Durga and that of other gods and goddesses. The existence of these images can be traced back to the 15th and 16th century.

Unakoti: The distance between Agartala and Unakoti is 178 Kms. This is a location where many pilgrimages come for worshipping Lord Shiva. The existence of this place can be traced back to the 8th and 9th century. Sparkling waterfalls encircles this location. Present in the middle is the Unakotishwara Kal Bhairava, which is a sculpture of Shiva. The height of the statue is 30 feet. The main crowd pulling event of this location is the celebrations of Ashokasthami. Each year in the month of April, this festival is hosted here. 

Pilak: The distance between Agartala and Pilak is 100 Kms. The main attractions of this place are the carvings made out of stone and the plaques in terracotta style. The existence of these elements can be treaced bacto the period between 8th and 9th century. 10 square kilometers is the land coverage of the area.

Mata Tripureshwari Temple: This temple is a significant location for pilgrimage for the people following Hindu faith. As per the Hindu legends, this temple is counted as one of the 51 pitha stalas. The distance between this place and Agartala is 58 Kms. The statue of Goddess Kali is present in the temple. The name of Kurma Pith is given to the temple, since the structure forms the shape of a tortoise. 

Chaturdas Devta Bari Temple: The distance between the temple and Agartala is 14 Kms. The principal appealing feature of the temple is the renowned tribal celebrations of Karachi. This festival is hosted during the month of July, every year.

Maa Bhubaneshwari Temple: On the beds of the river Gomti, Maharaja Govinda Manikya constructed this temple during the time of 17th century. Lakshmi Narayan temple, Jagannath temple, Uma Maheshwari temple, and Durga temple are some of the other significant temples that are located in Agartala.

Jampui Hills: The distance between the Jampui Hills and Agartala is 200 Kms. This place is renowned for the presence of the permanent spring. Tourists must visit this place in order to observe the spectacular natural beauty and the tranquil environment.

Udaipur: This place is located at a distance of 55 Kms from the south direction of Agartala. This place is known as the city of lakes. The main attractions of this place are the Mahadev Temple and Tripura Sundari Temple. 

Sepajhila Wildlife Sanctuary and Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary: These wildlife sanctuaries are situated close to Agartala.

By rail: Kumarghat has the closest railway station.

By road: Private cars, jeeps and buses are there in order to reach this place.
