OverView of Gudur
Gudur is an one of the ancient villages in Warangal District and it has been there since 10th century. It had a glorious history since 1100 years. Now it is in the Revenue mandal of Palakurthy of Warangal. The ancient names of this village were Gumuduru and Gunmuru. After Independence, this village had recognisation as largest populated, in Jangaon taluk of Nalgonda District. This village along with the other villages of Jangaon taluk merged in to warangal district from Nalgonda in 1959. As per 2015 survey,present population of village is 6000. Village is having an 360 acers Tank, constructed by Kakathiya kings. It is livelyhood for approximately 1000 acers. At present, Sarpanch of Grama Panchayat is Mr. Pullaiah Macharla, This ancient Guduru, in the regime of Kakatiyas was one of the head quarters of "Samsthanas" At the time of Rudramamba kingdom, this Samsthanam had more importance and was named as Gumuduru ruled by the father in laws of Prataparudra Chakravarti. Today also we can see the " Shila Shasanam" ( Monument) at Gram Panchayath Office, which was laid by the Samstanadhishulu of Gumuduru Samsthanam. After some centuaries Gumuduru conveted as Gummuru. This historical village had close inline with telugu ancient literature. A tank, in the outskirts of the village constructed centuries ago, named as " LAKKA CHERUVU" which is in memory of "LAKKAMAaMBA" the mother of the great Poet PotanaAmatyudu, lived in 12th centuary in near by village Bommera.
In the freedom struggle this village was given birth to as many as 20 patriots and 18 of those were recognized as freedom fighters, awarded with Thamra patras and pensions.
In Nizams regime, the village gained with many more socialists and communists who fought against the feudalism as well as religion ism and servd their level best for equality, socialism. In 17th century, when the official language was Urdu the village name was spelled in postal department as "GUROOD". In 1978 to 1984 the youth of village agitated to correct the name of the village and made many more representations from Collector to President of India and produced evidences to them. At last the postal department corrected the name of the village as Gudur instead of Gurood.
The well known educationalist, freedom fighter and Ex MLC Chukka Ramaiah born in this village on Nov.20th, 1925. He studied in this village school until the third grade. He is performing Chandi yagam since many years in the village, which has supported to increase the importance of the village. with the help of Ramaiha garu so many students of the village got seats in prestigious educational institutions of the state as well as employment in UK and USA.
