OverView of Akkanapuram
Akkanapuram is a peacefull village near Watrap, Virudunagar District. Its fully surrounded by farm land, in East Vallayankullam, in the West Illandaikullam, in the South Kadaneri, in the North Thailapuram and most of the peoples belong to this village are Dalith(Parayar) and they work as farm land coolies to the minority community (Thevar and Nayudu) peoples in the near by villages. The village is divided in to two part as Akkanapuram and Akkanapuram Colony were as Akkanapuram is located on path of Watrap to Perayur which is a inner most rural village away from Akkanapuram Colony at a distance of one kilometer and Akkanapuram colony is on the way to Watrap to Virudunagar. The ancient history of akkanapuram is started in such a way. that, the untitled village was formed by a group of peoples belong to Parayar community. A long time ago the peoples move from place to place for their life get settled down in this place and later the place had been developed into a small village before the independence itself . In the period of Nayakas the untitled village is had been given to one of the queens of King Thirumalai Nayakar named Akkammal and so it is called as Akkammal Puram and later it had been changed in to Akkanapuram.this peoples are inborn genius even though they had been restricted for education. Beyond than working as coolies the also extend their occupation as hunting,doing hand crafts ect, they also donated their knowlege for developing folk dance and their are the founders of tamilar's traditional musical instrument named as Parrai. Still it remains as one of the wounder full musical instrument in every functions of tamil peoples.
In 19th century the person name mukkan has remaind as one of the best man in the martial art named sillambam. In this century a Jesuit father named Rev.Thirincal came to this village for religious service and some of the families willingly get in to christianity and remaining families follow their own religion. Because of the service of this father a near by village had been named as ayardarmam. now-a-days the government had provided several development programs for the wellfare of the villagers, students and old aged peoplesin this village even though the peoples still need some offers from the government for their upliftment in both education and lifestyle.
