OverView of Luireishimphung
Brief history According to the history researches, from the time immemorial Luireishimphung (earlier known as Luirei) was known for its rich in natural resource. It was early 1900s when spring salt was first discovered by few hunters which occurs naturally at northern part of Ukhrul district, Manipur. As soon as the it was discovered the news spread like a wildfire to all the inhabitants of Tangkhul at that time. The legends have it says that the people for far and corner came to luireishimphung to buy the salt, due to unavailability of currency (Rupees), the mode of exchange was through barter system (exchange of goods for goods). It was known for its marketing center and was economically at the its peaks. The king/chief was known for his pride and wealth because of the spring salt which occur naturally on his jurisdiction or his land to which he wages war to the neighboring village more often than usual after a long battle against the neighboring villages for so long. The chief flees to which we called know now as Namrei which they accept the history till now. After his migration with all the population from Luireishimphung the spring salt was under the jurisdiction of Kalhang village for almost a century. After few decades a member of 10 household migrate for kalhang village to settle at Luireishimphung on 14 September 1964.
