In olden days it was called as PERIYAKANDANVADALI.. But now the name is modified as PERIYAPURAM. It is very near to MANAPAD, KULASEKARANPATINAM and also TIRUCHENDUR. These are all considered as touriest place. In periyapuram, the people who are living in that place are very unity in nature. They are all close to each other. They formed MINNAL ILAINGNAR ANI and THIRUVALLUVAR NARPANI MANDRAM.in olden days there was a transport of karupetti from here to various places..people lived here cultivated so many varieties of food items...as a days passed as the village is near to the seasore due to the over use of underground water the pure water has been distructed by the sea water. so people found so much difficult. couldn'tcultivate many varieties of food. as a days passed the water become too much salty. so it affect agriculture. now the soil suites to cultivate only coconut tree ,palm tree Drumsticks and sapota trees. The village is in thoothukkudi district, thiruchendur taluk, kulakarapatnam village, mathavankurichi post. The railway station near to that is thiruchendur junction..the airport near to that is in thoothukkudi, the harbour near to that is in thoothukkudi. There are so many tourist spot near that village. The village has a famous temple such as periya vinayagar temple, isakki amman temple,murugan temple, mutharamman temple, sudalaimadan temple, bramha sakthi amman temple and a famous kulasekara maharaja temple. Every the temple festival will be conducted. The famous dussera will be conducted. The bus stand is 1km away from the village. Oce in 2 hr the bus may come. no ration stall. no proviosional shop, people alll migrated to city like chennai. no government officer are there to check the village. The government school even closed due to inadequate student.
