OverView of Karivalamvandanallur

Historical back ground of Karivalamvandanallur :Karivalamvandanallur was a kingdom ruled by the king named Varadhunga Ramapandian around 10th Century. He was a great devotee of Lord Shiva.His younger brother King Adhiveera Ramapandian was ruling Tenkasi kingdom who was a great poet too. The name Karivalamvandanallur denotes a holy place where an elephant used to worship Lord Shiva who was in a Shivling roobh under a kizha tree. Surprisingly, we can dharshan the same holy Kizha Tree even today inside the Palvanna Nadhar Temple. The age of this tree is more than 1000 years. Another famous temple of this Village is Uthandakalai Swamy Temple situated at the bank of river Nitsheba Nadhi. Uthandakalai Swamy is the family God (Kula Dheivam )of a certain warrior generation. Even today this God does night patrolling (many people have seen ) and protect the people of this Village in and around the Country.

Another famous temple in Karivalamvandanallur is of Swamy Godhanda Raman temple, commonly called as Perumal Kovil situated at the west car street and near by police line quarters. This temple had a great history of  Lakshman's (Younger brother of Lord Rama ) worship to redeem the Brammahasti Dhosham followed by Ravana's killing. Lord Rama performed the special poojas to redeem his Bramma Hasthi Dhosham at Rameshwaram and sent his brother Lakshman to Karivalamvandanallur to perform poojas. Another great history of this temple is the visit and worship by Agasthiya Muni. There are stone sculptures as evidence in this temple for all these happenings. A great historical event occurred in this place was the Dhivasam offered to King Varadhunga Rama Pandian on his first death anniversary. The king was a great devotee of Lord Shiva and led a self disciplined religious life. Unfortunately, he had no children in his married life. He had spent most of his life time in worship and devotion  towards Lord Shiva and died his late fifties. As per the customs of Hindu royal family, the son has to offer Dhivasam to his demised father on his every death anniversary. When the first death anniversary of the king came, the royal family did all the arrangements greatly to perform the anniversary pujas. The public were so anxious and in an embarrassing situation to know that who is going to offer Dhivasam to the king Varadhunga Rama Pandian. When the time came for puja, surprisingly a stranger appeared on the dais, sat in front of the pandit who was performing puja and started offering Dhivasam. The spectators were all confused and stoned, before they could realize what was going on, the stranger offered Dhivasam and disappeared. By the  time the people realized that the stranger was none but Lord Shiva ( Palvanna Nadhar )the dais was empty. On continuation of this honor to the king, every year his death anniversary puja & Dhivasam offering was used to carry out by a well known family of this place. Even today, the function is regularly happening in the month of November every year and the Dhivasam is offered by a well known family of this place called UKP family. All the pujas are performed in Palvanna Nadhar temple at the time of King's death anniversary and the Dhivasam is offered by UKP family at the nearest river bed every year. 

Few more temples are also there in this village(Kali amman temple,vadakkathi amman temple and Raku sakthi amman temples).
