OverView of Chohla Sahib
Chohla sahib is a historic place where guru arjan dev ji lived for shorter period of time . Everyone can visit there by bus or any other vehicle . It is almost 25 km away from tarn taran at the west east side .History of Chohla Sahib.
Chohla Sahib, previously in the 16th Century known as Bhaini Sandhua De. Founded by the Sandhu Jatts, hailing from nearby, village Sarhali Kalan. During the time of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Baba Adli Jee Sandhu, a famous Sikh Saint, brought Baba Bidhi Chand, a Chhina Jatt, of Village of Theh Chhina, into the Sikh Fold. Baba Bidhi Chand Chhina, Left Dacoitry. Baba Bidhi Chand Chhina, his mother was from Sandhu Jatt, family of Sarhali Kalan.
In year 1597, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, while preaching the Sikh Religion in the central village of Majha, came to Chohla Sahib, Then known as Bhaini, via villages of Jeobala, Kairon, Sarhali. Along with Guru Sahib, was Mata Ganga Jee, and young future Sikh Guru Hargobind Sahib Jee. Chaudhri Dana Sandhu Jatt, aling with the Sikh villagers, welcomed Guru Sahib. Guru Sahib held Divan (Congregation).
Mai Sukkha Jatti, the wife of Chaudhri Dana Sandhu, also prepared Churi (Mixed Bread and Butter Jaggery). Mai Sukkha Jatti, holding the food in a basket put on her head, and came in the Divan. Guru Sahib Blessed Mai Sukkha. Guru Sahib, also changed the name of the village from Bhaini Sandhua De, to Chohla Sahib. Mai Sukkha, asked Guru Sahib and his family to stay at their Mansion in the centre of the village. Where now a Gurdwara Stands By the name of Kotha Sahib. The Mansion is still intact to this day. Guru Sahib left the village in 1598, back for Guru Ka Chak (Amritsar). The Sandhu Jatts, built a Thara (Platform), where Guru Sahib had held Congregation. Chaudhri Dana Sandhu, donated 500 acres of Land in the name of the site, where Guru Sahib had stayed, This was during the Mughal era, in the time of Akbar.
During the Sikh Misl period, from being active in 1750's to de facto power, by 1760's, Chohla Sahib, was in the Ahluwalia Sikh Misl Territory. Sikh Sandhu Jatts of this area, Joined the Ahluwalia Sikh Misl. During the Sikh Misl Period, some time in the 1760s or 70s, Baba Saand Ram, a Sikh Udasi, Preacher, came to Chohla Sahib, and he with funds from the Sikh Sandhu Jatts of this area, built a small Dharamsala (Gurdwara), on the Platform site. Later on in 1921, During the Gurdwara Reformation, one of his Udasi successors down the line, was removed, because of him wanting to get the 500 acres of land in his name. This Udasi caretaker, left the village to settle down at Amritsar. According to the tradition of the villagers, some relics of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, were also kept here.
During, the British Rule, many Sandhu Sikh Jatts of this village were in the Indian Army and also many fought against the British, in the Gadar Party, for Independence.
