Apart from the five schools in saldhar a primary school also operates at pari village.

The name is 'Saldhar' and not Sildhar as per official records. During medieval times, the place was a key location for traders, travellers , merchants who crossed the PirPanjals and moved south wards to Reasi, Jammu and further south. Geographically the place is near to 'galis' or passes in the Pirpanjal which became a destination for merchants. Due to fear of thieves it is believed the merchants buried gold (SONA in hindi) underneath. As the wheels of time turned the name 'Sona ki Dhar' came to being and eventually moulded in to Saldhar.

The place may have gained importance during the Mughal times when the place was a strategic location and a possible night halt for any move northwards to places to cross Pirpanjals and reach places like Pulwama, Sopore, Srinagar.

Today Saldhar is a peaceful panchayat consisting roughly nine villages, population touching approx 4700. The demography mainly consists of kashmiri muslims, Gujjars, Bakkarwals, and a small minority of Hindus. The people indulge in farming , rearing. During june month the people of Saldhar move north to occupy the higher reaches for pasturing and comes back by October last week.

There are a total of eight masjids and one mandir in saldhar.
