OverView of Mahalunge
Mahalunge village is originally created by the Mahar community (Now they are Bouddhist). The grand grand parents of late Mr Shiva and Bhiva Ruke (Shiva and Bhiva mahar) started the village near a small river (Gir Dhow). After their establishment they built a temple of Jakh Mata (Gav Devi), Basu Raja and Shiva mandir at Gothan (a place of water source of the river). After their preliminary establishment of village, Tilori Kunbi people extended their village Karanjani to mahalunge and formed Kadam Wadi, Kangne wadi, patil wadi etc. The maratha (Deoghare) joined the village and form their community (Deoghare wadi) (Deoghare, Rane, and few Kunbi houses). Mahars of this village (Ruke) gave shelter to the nomadic tribe people Ghorpi/gopal) to their adjacent place and offered community land to them , it is now called as Gopal Wadi, their profession is fishing. Sarode wadi was established at last, these are also nomadic tribal people and their community profession was begging but now they are well established. The ruler of this village are Gujar Mehatas), they came from Gujarat and established in Maharashtra and settled in different villages. In this village they were in power because they were having money and grossary buisiness. They also took advantage of illiteracy of local villagers and acquired their land, gold and valuable things in the exchange of money and grossary items. All cast people use to work in their fields for money. Now the fact has changed. After 1956 the Mahars left hinduism and adopted Buddhism. In response to the appeal of Dr B R Ambedkar, this village mahars also stopped following hinduism and left the Jakhmata, shiva temples and stopped worshiping of them. These temples handed over to other hindu people Deoghare and Kadams. Near Gothan there are evidence of caves.
