OverView of Hokara
Hokra, is a beautiful hemlet in Talla Johar vally of Munshyari Talluka ,Distt Pithoragarh, in State of Uttarakhand (INDIA). It is located on the eastern bank of Ramganga watershed having glecial water from Namik Glacier and Hiramani glecier. This village is having a very auspecious Mandir of Mata Bhagwati, well known as Hokra Bhagwati or Hunkara Devi. Yes, one can truely realise that "Prayers goes up and blessings comes down" as soon as he enters Hokra Mandir premises. To many devotees, it is a MAHIMA of Maa Bhagwati. Snow clad hieghts of Dangthal(6050 mtrs) and Nandakot(6861 Mtrs abode of Mighty Godess Nanda Devi) stands guard on the north of this place. A challenging 8 days (to and fro) (holy) trek to NANDA KUND starts from Hokra . Male domicile of Hokra Gram Sabha take active part every year in the month of end Aug/start of Sep. These voulenteers carry dry ration (GUR-PAPDI) and hand weaven wollen blankets and knives in bamboo baskets (DOKA) on there backs to bring "BRHAMM KAMAL" (divine lotus). After crossing an absolute up hill thick forest of oak and Rhodendous, BHOJPATRA,grassy Highland medows and rocky mountains they reach NANDA KUND ( 4500 Mtrs +) . Then have a holy dip in the lake (kund). After the holy bath they worship Mother Godess Nanda and offer naturally scented pure Organic DHOOP . Now the party collects BRAMH KAMAL and tie them in bunches with utter safety in long bamboo sticks (locally known variety RINGAAL). And down hill trek starts. A small and last village on HOKRA -NAMIK route, named as GAULA is a couple of Kms ahead from this holy shight. Gaula village is also having Bhagwati Temple of equal might and power of Mata Bhagwati. Hokra ( Gaula ) Bhagwati Mandir celebrates a festivel between second fortnight of Aug and middle Sep.While the entire party is arrived a couple of kilometres before Gaula Village, Local villagers welcome them with Band (DHOL- DAMAU, MRUDANNG, BHUKAUR and JHANJHERS. Entire party dances and chants ryhmes of Glory of MATA Bhgawati.Priests, Pujaris and local voulenteers give a warm welcome to the team in Gaula Mandir . On the day of SAPTMI and ASHTMI these BRAMH KAMAL are used to decorate Mata Nanda Devi Idole in a festive gathering from all over Danpur and Talla-Malla Johar valley. Though divoties keep visiting this place through out the year but special POOJA is arrainged during CHEITRA NAVARATRAs in March-April every year. This is a perfectly peaceful holy place to visit. Entire Mandir premises are situated inside thick orchid of Oak trees. It is having motorable road link from rest of all distt headquarters. you visit with your heart full of faith and prayers, Mata will shower her blesings. Try not to spoil sanctity of Mandir/village and menkind. Domicile of Hokra village are loving people, hard working, selfless in hospitality and clean by heart. You just ask a simple help they will treat you like there own child. There is a lot-lot in the honour of HOKRA, that can be shared with. Not last but the least I will say, I am blessed to have visited. Will be visiting countless.My connection to this holy place has been a grate co incidence in the late 60s and early 1970.
