OverView of Thangai

Thangai is a small beautiful village in District Ghizar Tehsil Gupis of Gilgit Baltistan. It is the capital of the locality surrounded by 16 villages. It enjoys a high quality of Aga Khan Diamond Jubilee Learning Resource High School.This school has produced huge quality man power and leadership and thus is greatly respected by the communities. In addition, this village is the center of small business and social institutions such as Ismaili local council, Ismaili Conciliation and arbitration board, social welfare board, education and health etc which are actively engaged for the social development of all the people living in the locality. Besides, there is a government primary school and one government dispensary for primary health care of the people. Payukush, Nogar Lasht, Matooj Lasht, Saralokhot, Dahimal and Thangai are among the surrounding villages of Thangai. All these villages fall in one cropped zone. Most of the villages are famous for tasteful organic fruit including apricot, apples, peach, almond and peach. The people of the locality are highly accultured,hospitable, descend and progressive. They have village organizations for working together for social development programmes by pooling resources from government and other well reputed legal agencies. The local economy of the village is dependent on varied sources such as, agro production, small business, skilled laboring, employments and cattle rearing etc. Historically the people have been democratic oriented and crazy against nay tyrants. During the British rule, before independence, when the British was the sole lord, the youth of this locality had thrice clashes with British in Pingal Rest House where the British personnel were taught lessons and after that the British officers and related people were comparatively lenient towards the people of this locality. The youth of this locality like other brave sons of GB has huge sacrifices and command-bale contribution for the liberation of GB and for defending the soil of the country. Mr. Durdana Shah (Rtd JCO) who is from the same locality village Sosot, was awarded Sitar -e- Jurat in 1947 GB independence war against India in the recognition of his unprecedented bravery in the war. Similarly, Shaheed Mutabar Shah (Tamgai Jurat) from Pingal village was awarded Tamgai Juraat in the recognition of his examplary bravery in Kargill war. Similarly, Late Jan Madad Khan Tamgai Dafa, late Hasil Murad Tamgai Defa, Late Sher Wali Tamgai Defa and many others have served for GB liberation and for defending the soil of the country.
