OverView of Sialrama

Many legends can be heard behind the naming of Sialrama village. The word Sialrama has two verses one is Sial and the other is Rama. While the colloquial pronunciation is Sialrama. It is written as Sialrama in official documents. According to the Hindi language the combination of these two verses cannot negate the "Sitaram" meaning. On the other hand some scholars are of the opinion that Sanskrit word has been corrupted from Srugala. In the ancient Pali language the jackal is also called a Sial. It can be said that this village used to be the motherland of jackls, but some of the wise elders of the village refute this. When the village was settled there was a Sialilata (Bauhinia Vehlii, a climber creeper) in Demulgudi (Abode of the Gods and Goddess) According to the popular saying earlier this village was ful of Sialilata. This place was known as because of its dense vegetation and calm and cool environment. The name of this village carries the message of many mysteries, where there is a close relationship between the mystery of the death of Lord Srikrishna described in the Puranas. The holy Bramhini water stream flows inside this siali forest adding to its spiritual significance. Kolabira Zamindari was established in(1781-1818AD) reign of king Jayanta Singh of Sambalpur Chouhan clan .Sansadhar Singh Naik the first Zamindar of Kolabira became the ruler of ancient Jaipurgarh. Before this, King Balaram Dev had attacked the Bhograhgarh and brought it under his control. The Kolabira fort was under the control of the Sambalpur king, while the local Gond tribes held the rank of Gountiya and ruled the region. A Pali of this Kolabira Zamindari was Sialrama which was called during Gountiya rule. There is a legend the people of the Pradhan clan used to get the post of Gountiya of this village. Later, the rulers of the Naik clan were established in the Gountiya post of Sialrama village and served as a major part of the Kolabira Zamindari. Nilambar Singh Naik a ruler of Kolabira Zamindari clan received a Jagir of seven villages. Among these villages Sialrama was one of the most important from the military and economic point of view. It can be inferred from the beginning of the Kolabira Zamindari that the Gountiya rule began in a systematic manner in the village of Sialrama. The rulers of this Naik clan were competent and skilled in the maintenance of the nearby Dhutragarh Fort. So the Landlords of that time had a lot of faith in them .Chakradhar Naik established himself as an efficient ruler of Gountiya in Sialrama. Then his successors got the rank of Gountiya. On the call of Veer Surendra Sai Karunakar Singh Naik(Kolabira jamindar)United the Gond heroes and waged an armed struggle against the British Government. There must have been the sincere cooperation of Sialrama Gountiya. Balanand Parekh, Masat Tajan, Kesaba Bakhara and Aiban Bag were the four brave sons of Sialrama village who participated in Mahatma Gandhi's non - violent movement and imprisoned. Among these four freedom fighters Balanand Parekh was highly educated. He was the epitome of refined, reformed life. Although he was a Patwari by profession he was more interested in serving the country. He played an important role in the promotion of independence in the Kirimira and Laikera region. He had a close relationship with Nrusingh Guru known as the Gandhi of West Odisha. His participation in the Jharsugua Congress committee and his work ethic attract the attention of Congress leaders like Chintamani Pujari and Dayanand Satpathy. Later on, he gave importance to women's education by conducting vigorous agitation against foreign products, caste practices and superstition. He proposed to setup a Harijan School in the village to improve the education of Harjans. Under his leadership more than 615 members joined the Congress. Finally, in 1940 four patriots were unjustly arrested by the Britishers and imprisoned in Sambalpur Jail. After being imprisonment there for a year Balanand vowed to save his mother land.
