OverView of Laulai
In pre independence time Laulai was under the rule of Dhenkanal gadajat state. The village was formed before 200 years. According to the older persons, the village was surrounded by thick forest and wild animals. The tigers and elephants were moving around the village in the day time. There was a village head appointed by the Dhenkanal Raja who was collecting the tax from the villager. The villages were also doing Bethi work for the Raja and had participated in making the Jatan Nagar palace of Dhenkanal garh.
As the older persons saying, hundred years before there was a big nala ( gully) in the middle of the village. Once the king came to the village by riding his elephant. A big Nau( gourd) plant with plenty of lau was trailed over the nala. The elephant could not pass through the creeper. Then the king gets down from the elephant and cross the road in walking. The elephant crawled through the creeper by not doing any harm to the plant. From that day the king named that village as Naunai, Gadually the name changed in to Laulai.
Laulai is my village, my birth place, a scenic village, surrounded by green crop fields, folded mountains and stream Kuanria in the north. Its rural view, culture and lifestyle attracts to all visitors who loves the rural life. The village is situated in the hill range of Kapilash, the place of lord Siva. It is in the middle of the triangle Chhatia – Mahavinayak and Kapilash. Each 25 kilometers distance from the village. The Mahima pitha Joronda is 35 kilomiters from this village. There is a Siva temple in the entrance of the village. One could find age old Bhagabata gadi and Chaitanya matha in the centre of the village. There is also a pala mandap where all renowned pala singers have staged their pala in the past. You could meet the forest elephants near the village.
