AMGURI VILLAGE: The study was conducted in Amguri village of Dhemaji district. It is located geographically 10 km. towards East from Dhemaji town the district headquarters. It is a relatively big village with 130 families. The village is settled in a 2 km long stretch. The village has Ahom community people. Assamese is the local language.
It is believed that there have a big mango tree (Am gas) in the
village. Therefore, from this mango tree there originated the name Amguri.
This village comes under Sissiborgaon development block and Amguri Gaon
panchayat. People of this village are living in very peaceful manner. This
village having very proud history. Agriculture is the main occupation of this
village. Still, this village is waiting for industrial development, education
and road. Road is the main concern of this village. This village is
mostly flood affected area. In the village, at middle point, there is a
Namghar and a Post Office.
Amguri village roads are pacca. But there is not a good communication system.
Though this village is are situated at a distance of only 10 Km.from the main
town of Dhemaji, 4 km of the road is mostly 4 Km. roads very bad. This village
remains disconnected with other parts of the district during the rainy season
and floods.
