SAUNTPUR VILLAGE, Puintala Block, Balangir - Sauntpur, Puintala Block of Balangir district is one of the big villages of Balangir district which is just 9 km distance from the main town. The name has derived from the name of the village kuldevi Goddess "Saunteswari". Besides the famous Saunteswari temple, three more temples are also there, such as Lord Jagannath temple, Lord Kushleswar temple and Goddess Bhairavi temple. Lord Jagannath temple ( newly made, completed in March 2018 ) looks very attractive and may be a large temple of Balangir dist which is an exact replica of Puri Jagannath temple from which one can easily remind many famous stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata which are painted on its wall. This village was once a famous village of Western Odisha where Padhan dynasty (a very rich family, the owner of around 800 acres of lands, much golden and diamond jewelleries and many more properties) used to control the Sauntpur region who bad direct link with the family of Raja Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo. The old people say that the King used to come to the village for the "Nuakhai Bhet" every year. They were eating lunch and dinner in golden and silvery utensils and both males and females used to wear heavy jewelleries on certain occasions which was attracted to the common people. They had lands at many villages and their servants were more than the population of the village. They had good relationship with the Royal family during that time. Though the Padhan family was an elite class family, they never did any good jobs for the common people besides humiliating or torturing them every now and then. They never built a village temple, hospital or other educational organization. They opposed to open a college at the village because they wanted to rule the people forever. They never studied at any college or university too, otherwise many officers, doctors, professors and politicians should come from this family. Their power lasted even 3 to 4 decades after the independence of India. Because of their ego, they ruined completely and History is the witness that maximum 4 to 5 generations enjoy a royal life but after that their degradation gets started too. The MLAs and MPs used to fear them but nobody cares them now because they are going back becoming poorer while others are progressing ."Chhuibandh", a pond which is 5 km away from the village (now in unused condition) was built by the family in which "Bhar" and "Sika" made of gold were used while that was being dug by them.Edit below overview about Sauntpur
