People of Batharla village speak in Kosali language. The village deity is Bastaren. After the conquest of Bastar, the king of Patna state, brought the idol of the deity in a bullock cart. The oar of the cart broke down at the outskirts of Patnagarh. On that particular place the deity was installed. And the place was known as Bastar la (brought from Bastar), later it became Batarla, Batharla. This village is culturally rich. It has successful people in various fields. Late Ainthu Sahoo was MLA for 20 years and MP for 3 years. He was a minister too. Sanatan Thakur is a man of performing arts. He was a great dramatist. Haradhan Sahoo excelled in football and volley. Hareram Hota is the first engineer, Charan Panigrahi is the first doctor of the village. Ramlila is played every year with traditional style. Nuakhai and Puspuni are major festivals. The river Mayabati situated at the northern border of the village. The village is surrounded by mango grooves. Satyananda Baba was a freedom fighter from this village. Banamali Kumbhar was the first member of Parliament from this village.
