OverView of Hugam
Hugam is a beautiful village located about 12 Kms away from Anantnag. The village is connected with Anantnag via two roads - one from Bijbehara and another from Mattan Anantang. .Although the majority of population is Muslim but before 2000 A.D there used to live adequate number Kashmiri Pandits. Around 60% of the population comprises of youth and the literacy rate is about 75%.The village has two famous mosques namely -Masjid Umer (r.a) and Hanfia Jamia Masjid. In addition to this there is one Hindu Temple(not in well condition) and a shrine of Syed Ahmed Kirmani (r.a.).
Main source of income for people of the village is farming.
Chiniwedder-part of a village has its own significance as it attracts many tourists from different parts of the globe. It is covered with the apple orchids and is now literally famous by the name of Apple Valley. Bijbehar-Phalgam road passes through the Chinniwedder which gives it a marvelous look.
