Origin of the
Village
The
origin of the village is traceable from two sources. First source is the local
knowledge about its origin, which has passed from generation to generation. The
second source is available in the shape of revenue records of the village. The
local sources say that one Haji Fatah Rather was married to Sundri, resident of
Srinagar. Sundri’s father was employer in the court .He with permission from
the court-gifted land. On the basis of
this became Sundripora, which later on changed to Sundpur, though now officially
Chandpora. Hence it could be safely concluded that Rather were the first
settlers of the village .This is also corroborated by their numbers in the
village .They constituted about 3\4th of the population and
proportionate assists. The other castes like Dar’s, Bhat, Naikoo, Wani, Wagay
settled by and by .They have emigrated from other areas and settled down in
Chandpora.
The
revenue records also corroborate the same. In fact the revenue records i.e.,
Record of rights (Misli-Haqliya) have quoted. The local sources as for as name
of the village and settlement of various casted concerned .In the column
(Waj-hi-Tasmia) “reason for name” the record of rights mentions exactly the
story held above .It is reasonable to believer that the first settlement of the
people in the village took place about 200 years before .
There
is another version about Haji Fatah Rather .As per local elders he was from
Kabul, from where he migrated to valley and married Sundri. However, there is
no solid proof to prove this as Rather does not exist in Afghanistan.
