Thiruvarur District 

Out of the 30 districts in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the district of Thiruvarur is one. The district shares its boundaries with the district of Nagapattinam on the eastern side, on the western side with the district of Thanjavur and on the southern side with the Palk Strait. The administrative headquarters of the district is located in the town of Tiruvarur. Thiruvarur is another way that Tiruvarur is spelt. 

For many hundreds of years, the town of Tiruvarur is considered to be a famous hub for cultural events. The town of Tiruvarur is an archaic town. Some of the things that are renowned in the town are the temple of Sri Tyagaraja and also the yearly chariot festival, which is hosted in April. Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri were also born here. These three characters are called as the Trinity of Carnatic music. 

                                                THIRUVARUR HISTORY

On 1st January of the year 1997, the Valangaiman Taluk was separated from the district o Thanjavur and the taluks of Thiruvarur, Nannilam, Kudavasal, Needamangalam, Mannargudi and Thirutturaippundi were separated from the district of Nagappatinam. Thus, the district of Tiruvarur was created from the separated taluks. The Thiruvarur District is comprised of 2 numbers of revenue divisions, 7 numbers of taluks, 10 numbers of community development blocks, 3 numbers of municipalities and 7 numbers of town panchayats. 

The spotlight came onto Thanjavur, when the rulers of the famous Chola Dynasty obtained control over this place during the time period of 9th to 12th centuries. The kings of the Chola Dynasty were brilliant administrators and also great architects. Numerous buildings are present here, which mirrors the architectural styles of the Chola builders. 

As per the Treaty signed on the year 1799, the control over the governance of Thanjavur was given away to the British Government. However, the fort was kept by the ruler of the region. The British Government also seized the fort in the year 1841 upon the occurrence of the death of the ruler of the region, who left no successor. Till the independence of India in the year of 1947, this region was there under the administration of the British Government.
