Sultanpur is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It forms a part of the Faizabad division. Sultanpur city is the administrative headquarters. It is also the municipal board. It is situated on the bank of the River Gomti. It is located in the middle of Varanasi and Lucknow. It was a centre for Hindu and Buddhist cultures for a long time. But in the 12th century, it fell into the hands of the Muslims. Victoria Manzil and Christ Church are the major tourist attractions. The Chimanlal Park is also worth a visit. The city of Sultanpur is well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal and Indore by trains. Awadhi is the major language spoken.
Sultanpur History
The revolt of the native troops stationed at Sultanpur during the Mutiny was the only notable incident that took place. The troops of the rebellion killed two British officers and sacked the station on June9, 1857. The British troops were detached upon the restoration of Law and Order. In 1961, the Sultanour cantonment was completely abandoned. Facebok group "Ghar sultanpur" created by "Nitin Mishra" is nowdays very growing and very active social network group. Sultanpur Culture
The most famous festival celebrated in this region is Durga Pooja. It is celebrated from the first day of Navartri till Poornima. A lot of cultural activities are senn during these 14 activities. The Murti Visarjan is also celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm which takes around 90 hours. Sultanpur is also famous for its prestigious juloos-e-amari procession, which takes place somewhere around the 60th day of Moharram. People from all over the state come to see this. Initially, Sultanpur formed a part of Ayodhya. Thus, people from this district are great followers of Lord Ram. Major castes which are present are those of prominent Brahmins, kshatriyas and backward castes. Large number of Muslims are also present. People of this region are hard workers and love to lead a carefree life.
