Kaushambi is a district in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The district headquarters are situated at Manjhanpur. It forms part of the Allahabad division. The district came into force on April 4, 1997. On the north bank of the River Yamuna lays the district headquarters. It is surrounded by Chitrakoot in the south, Pratapgarh in the north, Allahabad in the east and Fatehpur in the west.
Kaushambi History
Kaushambi was visited several times by Gautam Buddha during the reign of Udayana to spread his dharma and the message of the Noble Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths. Udayana was a Buddhist follower. It is said the first idol of Buddha was carved out of Sandalwood and was made under Udayanas instructions. Vahinara, Dandapani, Niramitra and Ksemaka were the four successors of Udayana as said in the Puranas. Avanti annexed Vatsa. Kaushambi was ruled by the prince of Avanti, Maniprabha, the great-grandson of Pradyota. The pillar of Ashoka was placed by Ashoka in Kaushambi. The place also has a Jaina Derasar. The temple and pillar are to be found even to this day. The archaeologists are still excavating the remains of Vatsa and its university.
Kaushambi Climate
Summers are very hot and winters are very cold. The rainy season is good and pleasant.
