Dang is also commonly known as the Dangs. It is a district of Gujarat, an Indian state. Ahwa is the administrative headquarter of the district. It is the least inhabited district of Gujarat, as of 2011.
Dang History
Several wars were fought between the five tribal kings of Dang and the British before independence. The biggest war took place at Lashkaria Amba, according to the history. In the war kings of all five erstwhile states got together to protect Dang from British rule. The British were defeated. They decided to discontinue war and resorted to compromise. The compromise treaty was signed in 1842. According to the treaty, the Britishers were allowed to use the forests and their forests and their natural products. Against this usage, they had to pay certain amount around 3,000 silver coins to the five kings of the then monarchy.
At present, the kings are offered monthly political pension by the Government of India. It is the main source of their income. Even though all privy purses for the Princely states of India were stopped in 1970, but till now this payment is continued, since the agreement took place between the then monarchy of Dabgs and the British. In ancient Indian Scriptures, Dang is recognized by the name Dand Aranyaka. The Kings gather in Ahwa for a traditional royal ceremony, in every year at the financial end to receive the payment as per the agreement of 1842. They come in their decorated buggies, band with tribal dancers. It means Bamboo Forest.
Dang Climate
In winter, till March the climate is dry. After that the humidity increases. The monsoon ends in October.
