Gujarat, an Indian state has 26 districts and Banaskantha is one of them. Palanpur is the administrative headquarter of the district and is also its largest city. Banaskantha is situated in the Northeast of Gujarat. It is apparently names after the West Banas River. The river runs through the valley between Mount Abu and Aravalli Range and then enters into the plains of Gujarat in this region and flows towards the Rann of Kutch. The district is well-known for the Ambaji temple and Balaram temple and it attracts many tourists. Banaskantha is surrounded by Rajasthan state in the North, Sabarkantha district in the East, Kutch district in West and Patan district and Mehsana district in the South. Banaskantha consists of the area situated on the banks of the river Banas. Thus the district is positioned in the north western part of Gujarat. On the north of the district lies Marwad and Sirohina of Rajasthan State, on the east lies the Sabarkantha district, on the south lies Mehsana district and on the west of the district there is Patan. Pakistan border lies adjacent to the desert. When is borders are considered, Banaskantha district has a strategic importance. Since this district is a border district of Gujarat, the issues of this district are important from the military point of view and as a result, it demand attention.
