Gita Colony was carved during 1952-54 by Ministry of Rehabilitation(MOR) for resettlement of families uprooted as a result of partition of India Plots are of mostly of uniform size 100 square yards (15 X60 feet) and are open on both sides.The plot holders were allotted the land and contractors were assigned by the MOR for constructing a room of 15`X10` at a cost of Rs. 500=00.No other construction like toilet,kitchen or required structure was made cause it was taken up on war footing and with minimum expenses. The cost of the plot at the time was not more than Rs. 01000=00 (Rs, one thousand) recovered later on by the Govt ( now the cost a single plot is not less Rs. ONE CRORE ).The colony had its boundries from Gandhi Nagar Police Station upto Khureji Khas a village. Its land was carved out of Jheel Kuranja village as per registration documents. Name Geeta colony does not appear in the registration documents. Police administration was also controlled by Gandhi Nagar P.S. It had its own PS Geeta Colony later own in a new building. DURING 1955, 1956 like other colonies, people in Geeta Colony had to shift for safe places due to floods threat of river Yamuna. During the fllood of 1978 some people shifted to safer places due to threat of floods which diid actually posed real danger when Model Town Azad Pur & other areas were actually flooded. As the uprooted families resettled in Gita Colony belonged to hetrogenous population of various Districts of erstwhile Punjab in West Pakistan, like Multan, Jhang, Sargodha, Silakot Lyalpur and also some part of Sindh province, they also were engaged in different trades & vocation mostly service sector The orginally settled persons were Tonga drivers, manual worker, dairy owners or worked in the main city unskilled, semi skilled or skilled workers. Some persons were engaged in public service in the offices of government and other Bicycles were seen as conveyance general people and there was beeline of cycles in the morning towrds the main city DELHI. People used to ease in the open & the adjoning fields. The colony had no drains open or covered or sewage system and with the passage of time some public toilet blocks was constructed.Water supply was started in 1965-66 No electricity lines or street lights existed and people had to depend on kersosene lanterns Even now efficient sewage system does not exist despite huge sums of public money has been expended on the system. Plots of original allottees have changed hands due to personal requirement of the inhabitants Previously building plans of only ground floors were allowed by the civic body, but with the passage of time there have appeared 3 & 4 storeyed buildings. and commercial activity has added to the prosperity of inhabitants Now there are traffic jams due to overpopulation of Cars big & small as personal conveyance
