About and History Of Narli


Narli, is a very old Village in Tarn Taran Sahib District of Punjab (Before part of Amritsar District). The Village was mainly Sandhu Jatts. Bhai Mai Das who had converted to Sikhism before was a Hindu. He was a Devout Sikh during the time of Guru Amar Das Ji (1479-1575) Third Sikh prophet at that time Goindwal Sahib Village in Amritsar District was the capital of the Sikh Religion from where preachers were sent to different parts of the Country India, Afghanistan while in Punjab Sikh Preachers were based in Majha, Doaba, Manjki, Malva regions . He was one of the 22 Manjis established by Guru Amar Das Ji to Preach the Sikh religion. Mai Mai Das Preached Sikhism in the Majha regions Amritsar District, Lahore District and Tarn Taran Sahib Districts. winning large number of converts to Sikhism. Bhai Mai Das was initiated as a Sikh by the Sikh guru. The old (Manji) Cot is still kept in the Village Gurdwara known as Gurdwara Manji Sahib. their are Three Gurdwaras in the Village.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780-1839), got Built the first big building in the Village, the present day Building was rebuilt in 1952, by the Village Sikhs.

Sardar Sham Singh, a Sandhu Jatt of Narli the founder of the Karora Singha Misl one of the twelve Sikh Confederacies in the Punjab during the leadership of Nawab Kapur Singh Virk of Sikh Confederacy, he was a Sikh Warrior during the early 18th Century he fought against the Forces of Nadir Shah the ruler of Iran in 1739. He was a very Devout Sikh it is said that anyone that crossed his path would become a Sikh. He used to read his daily Sikh Prayers. His Sikh Confederacy was later named as Karora Singha Misl after the Sardar Karora Singh (d.1761), a Virk Jatt of Barki Village in Lahore District of Punjab.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh (1907-1931) also a Sandhu Jatt traced his Ancestry back to Narli Village in Amritsar District. as he also wrote about his forefathers, belonging to Narli.

Today the Narli Village is near the Indo pak borders.
