About and History Of Sarmathura


SARMATHURA The old name of village sirmathura,in the time of english kingdom, This kingdom - also known as 'JAGIR' in Rajasthani language was established in the early 16th century during the Mughal rule in India. It is situated near River Chambal in the Dholpur district of the princely state of Rajasthan nearly 190 km from Jaipur. It is surrounded by lakes and forests amongst the Aravali Ranges. The economy is trade in red sandstone, moderate harvests of sweet bajra and mustard, mangoes from numerous orchards lining the highway and cottage commerce.

The Royal Family of Sirmathura stays in a 250 year old grand palace built over 5 hectares of land and the palace is being maintained by the members of the Royal Family, Rao Narendra Singh, kr Hemendra Singh & kr Surendra Singh who belong to the Yaduvanshi clan of rajputs known as Jadoan Rajputs. Sirmathura was founded by Raja Mukut Rao who built a huge fort on 16 acres on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake, a war with the Dholpur state in 1860 destroyed the old fort and the rulers then built a palace in the heart of the city 250 years ago.

Places to visit

The town has some of the most ornate jharokhas or latticed windows and pillared courtyard. The view of the lake from the ruins of the old fort is spectacular and the whole of Sirmathura can be seen from this point. A few km off the city is the famous shrine of Shiva as Mahakaleshwar, the one who controls time and destiny.

Talab-e-Shahi is situated 35 km from Sirmathura town, on the bank of a beautiful lake. Nearby Talab-e-shahi, the Khanpur mahal is situated which was a pavilioned palace built for Shah Jahan but never occupied, at present this building is head quarter of Bari area RAC(police). The lake and the palace were built in 1617 A.D. as a shooting lodge for Prince Shah Jahan. The lake has various species of fishes and snakes. Water birds like white breasted water hen, moor-hen, stilt, river tern, ringed plover, sand piper and herons (grey, and purple) are quite common. During winter months, migratory ducks and geese also visit the lake in good numbers. The lake is very picturesque and supports rich aquatic life including fresh water crocodiles.

Dhamohe is a waterfall in Sirmathura region. It is an attractive tourist destination in whole district. It is visible in rainy season [July–September]. Besides this, Damoye has a long and green forest range with wild animals. Tiger Mohan from Ranthambore National Park, whenever escapes from Ranthambore likes the forest territory of Dhamohe and Van Vihar in Dholpur.

Van Vihar Ramsagar Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1976 is spread over an area of 58 sq km, it is a natural habitat for a variety of flora and fauna. Van Vihar Ramsagar Wildlife Sanctuary is about 40 km from Sirmathura. It is believed that Maharajah Udaibhan Singh of Dholpur had a great liking for the wild animals of Van Vihar. He used to hand feed not only the deer and antelopes in the reserve but also animals like foxes, jackals and birds. The sanctuary is divided into two parts Van Vihar and Ramsagar. Van Vihar is on the Vindhya Plateau while Ramsagar is situated around the picturesque Ramsagar Lake.This beautiful sanctuary is dotted with low hills criss-crossed by a large number of streams. Major animal species found here include sambar, leopard, wild boar, blue bull, sloth bear, hyena and chital. It is also home to a variety of birds including partridge, peafowl, quail sand grouse, herons, egrets and spoonbills. Large number of migratory birds arrive here during rainy seasons.

Kaildevi temple in Karauli districet is so famous near of sarmathura, many of devotess passes through here and visit this temple to achieve their wishesh.

How to reach

Sirmathura can be reached by road from Dholpur which is 65 km and Jaipur is 190 km. The nearest railway station is Dholpur and the nearest airport is Sanganer airport in Jaipur.

Updates

Rajasthan government has proposed to extend the railway line from narrow gauge to broad gauge. this will connect sarmathura directly by Gangapur City Railway Station to Dholpur Station which directs to Mumbai-Delhi route. 

Dholpur-Karauli road lines to converted in National Highway 11B so almost much traffic will divert through sarmathura. There will be toll as well on this route. This work already started and about to finish in few days. 

Increaing poppulation and other daily resources to improve education and economy in this town, it has nominated as Tehsil as well.

Sarmathura is growing day by days, now it does not reamin village at all, it has just gone beyond of it and converts into town with improving in education, economy and in other aspects. The commute for sarmathura is  very smooth, easily reachable. Being on top sarmathura is highly temper in summer and sometime temprature reaches to 48-50 degree celcius.
