About and History Of Tikker

Tikker has a very ancient history at her back. As per Ancient literature viz Upnashids and the scriptures of travellers who have visited this place from time to time( like HAUN SANG) have given the details as the derived word of TRIAKSHRA meens three words which is the nickname of Gaytri mantra.

It is believed that the first Yagnopavit ceremony was soleminized at this sacred place of TRIAKSHRA. While talking to some of the old generation in the village like late  Haji Gulam Ahmad Malik, the village was called TIKKA, after the name of one of the very renowned pandit called TIKKA RAM.

The village has a rich tradation of HINDU MUSLIM brotherhood, While on one hand it has the ancient temple of MATA KHEER BHAWANI,  There is an old tree ( BRAN- local language name of wild tree) under which Hazrat Shah Wali Shab has rested for a while. There is an mosque by the name of BIG MOSQUE situated right on the right hand side of the road.

Village has been bestowed with the natural beauty of having a forest by the name of  Yayan  which is a plane piece of land of approximately 7 Sq Kilometers with lush green kail & dewdar tree all along. The forest is full of harbal medicines and unique birds on these trees.

Village has a Govt school established in the year 1924. which has moved from 3rd standard to 8th standard till last update available, this school has produced some of the best brains of the country.

Village has a stretegic importance of being very close to the Distt head quarter KUPWARA and being right on the KUPWARA TANGHDAR road.
