Vaiyacheri is an ancient well known popular village in the tanjore district of Tamil nadu. It is the birth place of the legendary carnatic musician,child prodigy,"samaskrithm"and telugu scholar at a very young age "Sri Maha vaidyanatha Sivan" who lived during the 19th century, when the then Serfoji Maharaja of Tanjore was ruling this district .He composed the rare 72 melakarta ragamalika in praise of Lord Pranatharthihara(aiyarappan) of the ancient Tiruvaiyaru temple, nearby vaiyacheri (about7miles). At the young age of 7, he could sing in all six tempos and also ragam tanam pallavi.At the age of 12,he got the prefix "MAHA" after he elaborated the raga chakravaham for nearly 3 hours and sang saint tyagaraja's gem "sugunamule jeppukonti". He became a learned scholar in tamil, sanskrit and telugu. He and his elder brother "Ramaswamy Sivan" had shown keen interest in Carnatic Music. The reason being, all his elder family members,his father Doraiswamy iyer was an acclaimed musician and his maternal uncle were the ANAI-AYYA brothers who were scholars in tamil and telugu and composed several songs,especially composing and singing devotional songs in praise of Lord Siva and Parvati in tamil, telugu and sanskrit. They were court musicians of the then kingdom during their period. All these great people were born in this holy village vaiyacheri and composed many songs in praise of the presiding deity of Vaiyacheri Sri Mangalambiga sametha Sri Agastheeswara swamy and in also in praise of the paraiva moorthy's of the temple. One such song in praise of mangalambiga being"Paruvam parka nyayama"-Dhanyasi in praise of Lord Agastheeswarar- "Innavithamae Poojai seidhidu"-Nattakurinji and many more.
